Performing Certificate Enrollment

Microsoft® Certificate Server issues digital certificates that enable server and client authentication under the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol. The process of obtaining a digital certificate is called certificate enrollment.

Note "Server authentication" refers not to Certificate Server itself, but to a server such as Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) that provides access to clients that choose to authenticate the server, and will themselves be authenticated by the server.
