Certificate Server Architecture

Microsoft® Certificate Server consists of the Server Engine that handles certificate requests, and other modules that communicate with the Server Engine to perform tasks.

The preceding diagram illustrates the flow of information between the Certificate Server and other components. These components include the Server Engine, server database, an external Intermediary application, one or more exit modules, a policy module, administration tools, utility programs, and optional extension handlers.
