Certificate Server Shared Folder

Microsoft® Certificate Server uses a network share known as the Shared Folder to store the following files:

  • Certificate Server configuration file

  • Certificate Authority signature and key exchange certificates

  • Certificate Authority Certificate List Web page

The Shared Folder location is assigned in the Choose Storage Location step of the Configuration Wizard. It must be a publicly accessible network share so that any user can access and install the Certificate Authority (CA) certificates using the Certificate Authority Certificate List Web page.

Note In this release, the Shared Folder must be located on the machine on which Certificate Server is being installed.

The Shared Folder location also allows administrators to access the Certificate Server configuration file for diagnostic purposes. For more information, see Examining Configuration Information.
